Zone events
Champions, invasions and treasure goblins turn up where you level, and rare creatures are worth a quest.
The world doesn't wait for you to find something to do. Every 15 to 20 minutes, any zone with a player in it gets an event near one of them, built from the creatures that live there and at their level. The whole zone hears about it: the news comes up in the middle of your screen, a red flag marks the spot on your map and minimap, and a tracker under the minimap shows the goal and the time left.
The first event comes 4 to 8 minutes after you arrive in a quiet zone. Capital cities and instances never get one.
The events
Champion
An elite twin of a creature that lives there, a head taller and with a title to match: a Brutal Redridge Basher, a Monstrous Kobold Miner. Rare elite, it fights with the original's spells and enrages when it is nearly dead. It counts for any quest that wants the original, drops that creature's loot plus rare blue items, and stays 15 minutes.
Invasion
The local creatures gather to take a spot. 3 waves march in from three sides, bigger each time, then their champion leads the last assault. Hold out and kill the leader within 12 minutes. Every invader gives its normal experience and loot too.
Treasure Goblin
A goblin counting its loot. It never fights back, but hit it and it runs, taunting you, and opens a portal home 60 seconds later. Catch it and it drops a bag of gold that grows with its level, plus rare blue items. Snares, stuns and ranged attacks are your friends.
Champions and goblins get 50% more health for each extra player of their level in the zone, so a crowd doesn't melt them. There is a champion version of 2718 different creatures in the open world.
Rewards
When an event is won, everyone who hurt one of its creatures, and their group members nearby, gets a share of their current level's experience on top of the kill experience:
| Event | Experience |
|---|---|
| Champion | 10% of a level |
| Invasion | 20% of a level |
| Treasure Goblin | 8% of a level |
Players more than 5 levels above the event, or at the level cap, get gold instead.
Rare creatures are worth a quest
Every rare and rare elite in the open world, event champions included, gives the experience of an average quest of its level on top of its kill experience, to everyone the kill pays. Together with their bonus loot, a silver dragon on the minimap is always worth the detour.
| Creature level | Bonus experience |
|---|---|
| 5 | 646 |
| 10 | 1,038 |
| 15 | 1,506 |
| 20 | 2,252 |
| 25 | 3,054 |
| 30 | 3,976 |
| 40 | 7,430 |
| 50 | 9,790 |
| 60 | 18,964 |
The average of every non-repeatable quest of that level on the realm.
